The reason why this is possible is because the platforms that are available are actually run by brokers, many times an entire team of brokers. They are responsible for making sure that all of the trades that take place within the platform take place in a way that is consistent with what needs to be done in the current market. The fact that you are able to do so in real time, does not negate the fact that you are actually using the broker in order to place the trade.
